This week on the new book truck

The Fall
In a hospital on the outskirts of 1920s Los Angeles, an injured stuntman begins to tell a fellow patient, a little girl with a broken arm, a fantastical story about 5 mythical heroes. As the tale advances the line between fiction and reality starts to blur. “Tarsem's "The Fall" is a mad folly, an extravagant visual orgy, a free-fall from reality into uncharted realms. Surely it is one of the wildest indulgences a director has ever granted himself. “—Roger Ebert

The Haunting
This 1963 film is from the novel by Shirley Jackson. “Hill House has an evil history with tragic accidents, suicide, and human misjudgment. Dr. Markway is a psychic researcher who assembles a group with histories linked to the paranormal. Eleanor was the subject of unexplained poltergeist activities as a child. She also is riddled with guilt over her mother's death. Theadora is a clairvoyant who befriends Eleanor at Hill House. Plus the cynical son of the owners sent to make sure that the property is not affected by the researchers. Together the group explores Hill House, and their own insecurities. Director Robert Wise created a taught drama where the real question is who is haunted and who may be unstable.”—www.imdb.com
